BAY HOPPING UP NORTH

Still Cruising through Desolation Sound

The skies are ever changing, clouds and or fog mingling with the mountains.

John's first salmon! Poor thing was dragged for who knows how long.

Starboard side tie at Homfray Lodge.

Homfray Lodge was purchased by three brothers a few years ago and took on an unfinished project. They not only finished the main lodge and three cabins, but designed a generator that uses the stream water which produces enough power for most of there needs. Matt, Scott and Dave greeted us with open arms and treated us as one of there own. If you're ever on the east side of Desolation Sound just south of Toba Inlet, stop in and say HI, you won't regret it! Just google Homfray Lodge in BC for more info.

Great room at Homfray Lodge, on Homfray Channel.

I could not wait to walkabout. John couldn't wait to meet the neighbors.

View of Pairadice from the hiking trail at Homfray Lodge.
Early happy hour with new fishing buddies.

The grounds at Homfray Lodge.

We spent Sunday and Monday night moored here.
Memorial Weekend, May 29th and 30th (Day 61 & 62)

Happened upon the aftermath of a fishing derby. Toast to & from the winner!

With her trophy!

John (on the right) shooting the bull... no shit!

The party is over!

Up and out early to explore Toba inlet and see more waterfalls!

Looks like a volcano, but it's just the clouds.

Heading into the Toba Inlet on a most beautiful, Memorial Day.
Toba Inlet extends 20 miles into the 8000-foot-high Coast Range mountains,
until it ends at the mouth of the Toba River.
More waterfalls in the distance. Toba Inlet.

The sign says "Welcome to Paragon Camp" at Brem Bay.
It's a very active logging camp with a helicopter landing pad and fueling station.

Another amazing waterfall from the melting snowpack!

A wonderful way to spend Monday, May 30th, Memorial Day on day 62.

John's pulling crab pots, again....

Retreated to Refuge Cove to visit the market.
Then, through another narrow opening, in the rain again, to the Octopus Islands.

It's raining again...

Dropping the hook, again.

Exploring from the "TT" trawler tender.

On the hook, Octopus Islands.

So peaceful, only the sounds of nature, and the diesel.

Leaving Desolation Sound

First set of rapids is named Yuculta. John timed it just right.

We pass by many of these offshore communities. This one houses a fleet of fishing boats.

Big Bay on Stuart Island

We headed up to the store and utilized the post office.

We moored here for about 4 hours, waiting for the current.

Float planes are common up here.

The owner of the store, who is also the postmaster, came down to help the aircraft dock.

This guy owns his helicopter and keeps it in front of his home, on a hillside among the trees.
Everyone leaves Big Bay at the same time, in order to caught the current.
We had 2 off the bow and 3 off the stern.
Locals call it, "The Parade of Boats".
Heading for Devil's Hole and Dent Rapids, the birds perched on a log help to spot obstruction.

The Navionics app on the Ipad, coupled with HDMI, makes it easy to zoom in and out.

From the safety of the pilothouse.
We enjoyed a 2-3 knot "push" through Dent Rapids! Yee Haa!
