COSTA RICA

Our passage from El Salvador to Costa Rica, along the Nicaragua Coast, occurred 2/27/21 day 122 to 124. It was our farest run yet, at 276nm, 37hrs, arriving in Costa Rica waters, on March 1st. We first arrived in Bahia Santa Elena and droppoed the hook at 3am waiting for clearance to bring our quarintine flag down, raise our Costa Rica flag and be granted entry to Marina Golfo. The paperwork took several days. The winds coming into the bay were no joke! However we managed a big breakfast and nice steak dinner at anchor. Once having secured the proper clearence, we traveled an additional 44nm 6hrs to Marina Papagayo in Costa Rica.
Today, I'm looking back at my log from February 27th and 28th 2021. We have boating friends south in this area, their posts bring back memories. Sunday, February 28th, 2021, we were off the coast of Nicaragua. i had the early morning watch. John was sleeping soundly in the watch berth. There were no targets on the radar and the AIS was clear off large ships. I always loved watching the sun rise at sea. However, we experienced very rough seas throughout the night. The Papagyo winds were relentless. When John popped his eyes open he found blue seas! I took a break and toasted up some raisin brown bread with lots and butter and a fruit plate. We enjoyed breakfast wearing our sunglasses. It was not long before the seas became harsh again. As we bashed through the seas, we realized it would be a long day of shifts at the helm. We managed a rememorable "bachlor burrito" dinner in the pilot house. When Patches (our Boston Terrior) had a panic attack near midnight, the decision was made to re-eval our course. We adjusted the course to a "tack" as if we were a sailing vessel. Everything became slower and much better manageable. It turned out to be a longer route but a very wise choice! We were safer and much more comfortable. Patches went to sleep hogging the watch berth. On March 1st, we arrived at our anchorage "The Bay of Three" Costa Rica. It was 3am when we set the hook. Shutting down the engine after a run like that, sooths the soul! Big naps, breakfast and showers. Then it was time to launch the and enjoy happy hour on Delta Swizzler. It was day 124.
At this point my laptop and Iphone became a challenge. Therefore, no pictures until arrive in Golfido.
